Casey Breaks 3rd-Period Tie, Sends Chatham to Final
Burke adds two goals as Cougars to face Middletown South in championship.
Danny Casey scored the go-ahead goal to break a third-period tie and lift the top-seeded ice hockey team to a 4-2 win Wednesday night over Mahwah in the NJSIAA Public B semifinals at Codey Arena in West Orange.
The Cougars advance to face No. 11 Middletown South (15-7-3), which upset second-seeded Brick 4-3, in Sunday's state championship at the Prudential Center in Newark at 1 p.m.
With the game knotted at 2 after two periods, Casey scored on an assist from Trip Burke and Rauter at 7:54. Alex Rauter then scored an insurance tally when he scored an empty-netter at 14:45.

Burke opened the scoring for Chatham at 2:03 of the first period. Fourth-seeded Mahwah followed with a goal from Luke May at 9:16.
In the second period, on an assist from Rauter, Burke scored his second goal at 7:05. The Thunderbirds' Matt Gutierrez made it 2-2 with a goal at 8:44.
