Celebrate Fall at a Chatham Apple Cidering Demonstration

The Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center will host apple cidering demonstrations October 22, 23, and November 12, 13, 26, and 27.

CHATHAM, NJ — Celebrate fall and learn something new by attending an apple cidering demonstration at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham. A 1 p.m. session and a 2:30 p.m. session will be offered on October 22, 23, and November 12, 13, 26, and 27.

Atteendees will learn how to prepare and grind the apples and use the old-fashioned press to collect the cider. They'll then observe as the locally grown apples are made into sweet cider, and of course they'll sample the homemade cider in the end.

“Did you know that you have been looking at apples upside down your entire life, and that apple pie might not be so American after all?" Jenny Gaus Myers, the assistant director of education and interpretive services at the Morris County Park Commission, asked. “At the apple cidering demonstrations you’ll learn all about the amazing apple’s place in history and in the natural world, along with lots of apple-themed fun facts."
