Learn about the Lenape Indians, who lived in North Jersey for thousands of years.

CHATHAM, NJ — The Lenape Indians lived in North Jersey for thousands of years, long before European settlers called the area home. Learn about their culture and history at this year's Lenape Day.
Held this Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m., present-day Ramapough Lenapes will share their culture. Attendees can learn about traditional dancing, drums, and different historical artifacts. There will be games, a replica wigwam (a traditional hut), and performances.
“The Lenape Day celebration at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center provides an authentic experience for both the Lenape and visitors,” said Jenny Gaus Myers, Superintendent of Environmental Education at the Morris County Park Commission.
