Chatham Borough To Bump Taxes $126
Public hearing on the 2019 budget is scheduled for April 22.
CHATHAM, NJ - The average taxpayer in Chatham Borough will be paying $126 more in taxes if the municipal budget introduced by Chief Financial Officer Tim Day last Monday remains unchanged.
According to Day's presentation, which can be viewed here, based on the average home assessed at $676,785, taxes will be $126 more than in 2018. The 2019 budget is $14,819,561 and has a tax levy of $8.9 million. Chatham Borough increased their budget $309,210 for 2019. According to the presentation, the total tax rate is 1.87 percent higher than 2018.
"Formulating a budget is a Herculean or near-Herculean effort and its also a team effort," Councilman Thaddeus J. Kobylarz said, noting the work the budget committee, administrators and department heads put in to assemble the document.

"It is a budget that provides for the funding of all our essential services, including police, department and public works, health and safety, etc.," he said. "And it does so with a modest increase in the tax levy."
