Chatham Borough Candidates' Statement: Koronkiewicz and Treloar

As you may have heard, there is an election on Tuesday. The current Mayor and two members of the Borough Council have decided not to seek office this year, which means big changes no matter who wins. We both hope you, the voters of Chatham Borough, will do us the honor of voting for us.

Over the past months, we have knocked on doors all over town. We have met with department directors and talked to borough staff. We have delved into the minutiae of garbage contracts and development agreements, and worked to decipher the borough’s budget. Juggling home, jobs, and running for office, we’ve been as busy as we can ever remember – and it all makes us increasingly excited to serve as members of the Chatham Borough Council.

Chatham is a special place. It is a place where kids still walk to school. Where neighbors gather at the farmer’s market on Saturdays and chat about local goings on. Where recent transplants from New York City mingle with die-hard, multiple generation New Jerseyans. Where in an hour you can be on Broadway watching a play or walking along the shore and in ten minutes you can be biking through preserved farmland and open spaces. We are all so lucky to live here.

Chatham has challenges, too, and we have spent the last months hearing about these challenges and thinking about how to address them. Whether it is traffic, pedestrian safety, development, or taxes, the Borough government has a lot on its plate. It is a daunting but exciting prospect to help navigate these challenges while preserving what we all love about the community. We believe we are up to the challenge.

We have worked hard in this election and, if elected, we will work hard for you in the coming years.
