NJ Man, 21, Dies After Car Launches Over Train Tracks, Cops Say
The Kia hit a guardrail before going airborne over the railroad tracks, authorities said.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A man is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Sussex County this weekend, according to police.
On Sunday, around 12:45 a.m., police were called to Route 15 in Sparta on reports of a crash.
Authorities discovered that a 2025 Kia K4 with three passengers had veered off the roadway for reasons not yet determined by authorities, police say.

An investigation found that the Kia had hit a guardrail, launching it airborne over adjacent railroad tracks, before coming to rest overturned in a wooded area near the highway, authorities said.
The driver, Ryan Mullins, 21, of Morris Township, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants, two females, were able to clear themselves from the wreckage and were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 15 northbound was closed for around nine hours while emergency personnel secured the scene and police conducted the crash investigation.
The crash remains under investigation by Sparta police, the New Jersey State Police, and the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office.
