Rauter Scores Chatham's Lone Goal in Setback
Saint Peter's Prep surprises Cougars before start of state tournament.
Saint Peter's Prep scored two goals after 10 minutes of play and the momentum stayed with the Jersey City school for the rest of the game as prep bested 3-1 Monday night at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Chatham junior Alex Rauter scored a power play goal at 12:50, but the Cougars were shut down for remainder of the game.
Saint Peter's (11-12-1) surprised Chatham (17-4-3), the top seed for this week's upcoming NJSIAA Public B state tournament.

Saint Peter's was quicker and took advantage of more opportunities, with 26 shots on goal compared to 23 for the Cougars. Chatham failed to capitalize on three other power play opportunities, two in the second period and one in the third.
Saint Peter's Will Simson, a junior from Chatham, scored first for the Marauders, followed by junior Salvatore DiBrita, of Rutherford, also in the first period. Rob Butko, a junior from Summit, scored the Marauders' third goal at 6:32 in the third period.

Chatham received a bye in the first round of the state tournament and will face the winner of Northern Highlands or Sparta Thursday at Mennen Arena at 4:30 p.m.
