Chatham Moms Appear On Fox News To Talk About Islam In School Curriculum

What do you think about the World Culture and Geography curriculum?

CHATHAM, NJ— Two Chatham moms appeared on the Fox News show Tucker Carlson Tonight to discuss the inclusion of Islam in the middle school's world culture and geography course.

Libby Hilsenrath and Nancy Gayer appeared on the program Monday night to discuss the 7th grade class, which includes a section on Islam.

Hilsenrath and Gayer had previously spoken at a Chatham Board of Education meeting on the same subject, saying Islam had been favored over other religions in the class.

Both mothers said they had been attacked for their views, being "stared down" at a grocery store, and compared to the KKK (you can watch their appearance below).

In a statement sent to the producer of Tucker Carlson Tonight and TapINTO Chatham, Superintendent Dr. Michael LaSusa said the section in Islam lasts three days, and is proportional to other world religions taught in the class:

The School District of the Chathams delivers a curriculum that meets and exceeds the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Said standards include subject matter on all of the world's major religions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and other faiths. The school district's curriculum reflects these standards and takes a balanced and thoughtful approach to how they are taught. The lessons on Islam that some of our parents have raised as an issue comprise approximately three days out of a 180-day school year. Further, in the scope of our full curriculum, content addressing Islam does not represent a disproportionate amount of time or resources. It receives a treatment similar to the other world religions, as outlined by New Jersey's state standards.
