Chatham Resident To Be Honored, Decor Discussion Monday

The Tuesday meeting of the Chatham Borough Mayor and Council will honor Sarah Stanley.

CHATHAM, NJ - The Chatham Borough Mayor and Council have prepared a commendatory resolution to honor resident Sarah W. Stanley for her work improving Stanley Park. The Stanley will be honored at the Monday night meeting of the governing body.

According to officials, last year the Mayor and Borough Council received a proposal from Stanley offering to fund and manage the restoration of the weathered sign at Stanley Park and to replant the area around the base of the sign with low maintenance perennials in honor of George Shepard Page. Stanley is a descendant of Francis Edgar Page, who was a first cousin to George Shepard Page, a successful businessman who had acquired several hundred acres in Chatham in 1867 and named his extensive holdings “Stanley,” officials said.

Stanley Park is a spot along the Passaic River where residents can fish, observe nature, or relax and the Kiwanis Club of Chatham, which had sponsored the construction and installation of the Stanley Park sign a number of years ago, agreed to provide help with the restoration of the park’s sign and the planting of new landscaping around the base of the sign, officials said.
