Chatham Township Committeeman Announces Resignation
John Maurer announced his resignation on Wednesday, effective Aug. 28.

CHATHAM, NJ — Chatham Township Committeeman John Maurer announced his resignation on Wednesday, effective Aug. 28. Maurer was elected in Nov. 2016.
Maurer cited his relocation to North Carolina as the reason behind his resignation. His family first began their relocation in the spring, he said, but as of Aug. 28, he will no longer be primarily a resident of Chatham Twp.

Although it is not public knowledge, my family and I will be closing the sale of our Chatham house at end of August and relocating our primary residence from Chatham to Raleigh, N.C. at that time. While we are excited to start a new chapter in our lives, we will be sad to see the moving company pack all of our belongings on August 28th and start the journey to North Carolina. I am therefore tendering my resignation as a member of the township committee effective August 28, 2017.
It is with a great sense of gratitude for all Chatham residents who have supported me during my short tenure on the committee that I say thank you for allowing me to serve you. I will greatly miss working closely with my kindred spirits on the committee who I believe oversee the township in a fair and reasonable manner. I was always impressed with the current committee’s reasonable approach to respectfully addressing residents’ concerns while at the same time being mindful of keeping the municipal component of your taxes low and quality of services high.
It was not immediately clear when the empty seat would be filled.
