Chatham Twp Named One Of The Safest Small Towns In America

Chatham Township was one of three New Jersey towns to make the list.

CHATHAM, NJ — Chatham Township has been named one of the 30 Safest Small Towns In America by Compare Insurance Companies.

Only towns with populations under 30,000 were considered. To make the rankings, the company looked as sites including Movoto, Sperling’s Best Places, and Area Vibes to find crime data.

Chatham was one of two Morris County towns to make the list. Mount Arlington, the small lakeside town on the west side of the county, also made the list. A third New Jersey Town, Hillsdale, was also honored.

Here's what Compare Insurance Companies had to say about Chatham:

There were not any violent crimes reported in Chatham in 2016, and of the 49 total crimes reported, 39 were instances of petty theft. Such statistics make Chatham’s overall crime rate 81% lower than the national average, and give Chatham residents a 0.5% chance of becoming victim to a crime.
