Chatham - What You Should Know About Wednesday's Nor'easter

Whether or not Chatham sees snowfall during tomorrow's storm, the harsh weather is sure to impact holiday travel.

Whether or not Chatham sees snowfall during tomorrow’s storm, the harsh weather is sure to impact holiday travel for those commuting in the tri-state area this Thanksgiving.

Here’s what you need to know about the pending weather conditions and how to stay safe on the road according to the National Weather Service:

  • The current projected snowfall amounts are calculated for 7 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 26 to 7 a.m. Thursday Nov. 27.
  • About 2 to 5 inches of snow could possibly fall northwest of the Interstate 95 corridor.
  • About 5 to 10 inches are expected further inland over higher terrain particularly in northwest New Jersey.
  • Any sort of precipitation from the storm will have a negative impact on the already busy holiday travel period Wednesday into Thursday morning.
  • Because of the high volume of holiday traffic, travel plans completed by 7 a.m. Wednesday morning would avoid most of the trouble from this event, particularly north and west of the I-95 corridor.
  • Electrical lines cound become comprimised due to the combination of strong, gusty winds and possible snow clinging to wires and branches - especially in northern New Jersey.
  • Spotty coastal flooding is possible Wednesday morning due to the impact of locally heavy rainfall occurring during the time of high tide.
  • Expect wind gusts over 40 mph along the Atlantic Coast during the heavier precipitation.
  • Storm timing has sped up. Its increasingly unlikely that you will be able to ‘beat’ the storm by traveling early on Wednesday - plan accordingly.
