Colony Swim Team Overpowers Rivercrest

Hard work pays off for Colony in its second win of the season. Colony's record improved to 2-6 after the victory.

On a muggy Wednesday night, the Rivercrest swim team traveled to take on the Colony swim team, where the Chatham-based Colony squad won, 157-119. The two teams are a part of the New Jersey Swim and Dive Conference.

The meet marked Colony’s eighth dual meet of the season. Despite a record of 2-6, head coach Cacky Keating is proud of her swimmers this season.

“It’s a tough league, but we have good swimmers. Times are improving,” Keating said.

Keating has confidence in her swimmers as they close in on the conference championship meet.

“As a team, placing will be somewhere in the middle," she said. "Some individuals will definitely be swimming in the finals, though.”

The night ended when Keating’s swimmers pushed her in the pool after the final score was announced.

KEY PERFORMERS
For the 8-and-under age group, Hailey Harkins won the girls 25-meter breaststroke and 25-meter backstroke. Harkins teamed with Tara McTague, Eve Reikey and Katie Valenti to win the 100-meter freestyle relay.

In the 9-10 age groups, Collin Prebenda had a pair of victories in the boys 10-and-under individual medley and the 50-meter freestyle. Brianna Fick won the individual medley for the girls, as well as the 50-meter backstroke. Emma McTague added a victory in the 50-meter breaststroke.

Margaret Harrigan won the 50-meter breaststroke in the girls 11-12 age group. Colony’s team of Natasha Greeve, Brianna Fick, Emma McTague, and Nicole Tingley swam to first in the 12-and-under 200 meter freestyle relay.

In the 13-14 age groups, Taryn McLaughlin won the girls 50-meter freestyle while Kate Harrigan won the 100-meter breaststroke.

For the 15-18 age groups, Chelsea Allocco won the 100-meter girls breaststoke while Julia Harrigan won the 100-meter girls backstroke for the age group. Adam Weinbrom won the boys 100-meter freestyle. Julia Harrigan teamed with Jane Ewald, Charlotte Morrissey, and Taryn McLaughlin for another victory in the girls 13-18 200-meter freestyle relay.

OUT-OF-YOUR-SEAT MOMENT
Rivercrest girls put up a fight in the 15-and-over freestyle relay. The Colony fans cheered on the team to a close victory.
