Community Bids Farewell To Chatham Borough Officer After 21 Years

Chatham Borough Police Chief Brian Gibbons honored retiring Chatham Officer Roy E. George II, who had served the borough for 21 years.

CHATHAM BOROUGH, NJ — Chatham Borough Police Chief Brian Gibbons honored retiring Chatham Traffic Safety Officer Roy E. George II, who retired after 25 years of service, 21 of which were spent with the borough police department.

George, who will officially retire from the force on July 1, was recently honored at a Chatham Borough Council meeting on Monday, June 27.

"He has tremendous perseverance, his presence on any scene would always elicit a major degree of relief for me and many others. He was sought after by all personnel for his experience regardless of their rank… Roy is exactly what the profession needs more of during these very difficult times in policing," Gibbons said.

According to a Facebook post on the Chatham Borough Police Department page, Gibbons and George transferred to CBPD from other agencies on the same day in Sept. 2002 and spent years working on many units and projects together.

"I recall the day we started and struggle with his upcoming departure," Gibbons said.

George is retiring after 21 years of service as a Traffic Safety Officer for the Chatham Borough Police Department.

According to the Chatham Borough Police Department, George's retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter in his life with his family. "He was the most resourceful officer I have ever worked with and he will be missed by me and every officer in the Borough. I hope you will return and visit often," Gibbons said.
