Investors Foundation's $150,000 Grant to Library of the Chathams

Investors Bank Charitable Foundation gives $150,000 to LIbrary of the Chathams as part of its mission to assist local communities

The Library of the Chathams has a received a $150,000 grant from Investors Foundation to help fund the library’s Bridging Space to Place renovation project. Fundamental improvements of this venture will include more space for children’s programming, an area for teens to study and interact, a room for STEM programs, workspace for entrepreneurs to collaborate, meeting space for community organizations, and a larger and more suitable location for local history materials. These improvements will support the library’s mission which is to offer resources that provide opportunities to build knowledge, culture, and social experiences for the community.

The concept for Bridging Space to Place is based on several events uniting the Chatham community. In 1728 the Day brothers settled on the banks of the Passaic River and built a bridge and a tavern. The small village became known as “Days Bridge”. Later, in 1773, the name was changed to Chatham in honor of English Prime Minister Sir William Pitt of Chatham for his support of the colonies’ fight for independence. Today another “bridge” welcomes all people to a center of community life which is the Library of the Chathams.

Library Board President Andrew Hollander states, “The Library is deeply grateful for this generous gift by Investors Foundation. It will have a major impact in maintaining the Library as the community center of the Chathams. Our Community offers its sincere thanks.”
