Jury Duty Phone Scam Hits Morris County
The scammers are using the name of a real Chief at the Sheriff's office to try and scam residents out of money.

MORRIS COUNTY — Another phone scam has hit Morris County, and police departments are warning residents so they don't fall prey.
Scammers have been calling Morris County residents pretending to be from the Sheriff's Office. The scammers say the resident has missed a jury duty date and have to pay a fine.
"The victims are advised to contact Chief Rich Rose at the Morris County Sheriff’s Department Civil Process Unit, (973) 295-5853, to make arrangements for payment. When calling the number back, residents are being asked to provide financial information over the phone to make payment," Florham Park police said in their warning.

Although Rose is a real employee at the office, these fines are not real, and residents do not need to pay them.
"Residents are being advised that although Chief Rose works for the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, these calls are fraudulent and they should not provide financial information to any individual via telephone," Morris Township police said. If residents receive a call from (973) 295-5853 or (973) 263-4776 they should disregard it.
