Pedestrian Hit By Car In Critical Condition: Chatham Police

The driver allegedly told police she didn't see the pedestrian.

CHATHAM, NJ — A Chatham woman remains in critical condition after being struck by a car Wednesday, Chatham Borough police said.

Maureen Matthews, of Chatham, was in a crosswalk at the intersection of Main Street and North Passaic Avenue when she was hit by a car around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.

When police responded she was unconscious in the roadway. She was treated on the scene by first responders and taken to Morristown Medical Center.

The driver, Mary Quigley, also from Chatham, allegedly told police she was making a left from North Passaic Ave onto Main Street, and did not see Matthews in the crosswalk.

Matthews remains in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by Chatham Borough Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s, Office Criminal Investigative Section and the Morris County Prosecutors Office.
