Pure Beeswax Candles...good for you?

Did you know that pure beeswax candles are not only beautiful with the warm glow they produce but that they are actually good for you?  A honey bee works hard to make the wax that makes those beautiful candles.

Here are some excerpts from an article on the benefits of beeswax candles written by Dana Burton:

To make a pound of wax the honey bees must consume six to eight pounds of honey and make thirty three million visits to individual flowers. Burning beeswax candles may help relieve the discomfort of seasonal allergies. A study reported in the Journal of Phytotherapy Research in April 2009, suggests that exposing the body to modified allergens in the local pollen will eventually build up immunity by minimizing the histamine response. According to the Journal of Allergy, the nutrient quercetin contained in the bee pollen, minimizes or neutralizes the histamine response and may be the primary reason for bee pollen's capacity to alleviate inflammation caused by allergies. In addition to the suppression of the histamine response, as beeswax burns it changes the air quality producing negative ions that help remove pollution from the air and improve the use and absorption of oxygen.

Beeswax candles are the longest cleanest burn of any candle and produce no soot when trimmed properly. They rarely ever drip onto tablecloths and other surfaces.

Beeswax costs ten times more than paraffin wax. However, because of their longer burn time they are not only a better value they are free of the petroleum based chemicals that come from paraffin when it is burned. Created by nature, the beeswax candle is the oldest candle known to man and the best choice for anyone that loves candles and wants to support the future of honeybees.

At Tomaro Honey we hand roll honeycomb wax to make beautiful candles that are long burning and lightly scented of honey. Check out this photo of our rolled candles in the making!
