Resto, Hoffman Congratulate Rivals After Chatham Council Loss
Both Republicans said they would be looking forwards to contributing to the community going in the future.
CHATHAM, NJ - Although the results remain unofficial Wednesday, Republican Councilmen Peter Hoffman and Len Resto have offered their well wishes to Democratic rivals Carolyn Dempsey and Jocelyn Mathiasen, who bested them in the Chatham Borough Council election Tuesday.
"We want to offer our sincere congratulations to Carolyn Dempsey and Jocelyn Mathiasen on their victory in yesterday’s Borough Council election," Hoffman and Resto told Patch in an email. "We wish them the best as they assume their new roles on the Council in January."
The unofficial numbers from the Morris County Clerk's Office saw Dempsey as the top vote getter with 1,975 and running mate Jocelyn Mathiasen notching 1,906 votes. Resto tallied 1,759 and Hoffman 1,657 in the contest. Results remain unofficial until certified by the county clerk. In close races, uncounted mail-in ballots could change the results.

"Thank you to all of the Chatham Borough residents who met with us and shared their thoughts about how to keep Chatham a great place to live and raise a family, and for their support throughout the campaign," Hoffman and Resto wrote. "It has been an honor to serve on Chatham Borough Council and we look forward to contributing to our community in a positive way in the years ahead."
