Sullivan Out: Mail-Ins Propel Ness To Victory In Chatham Township

Unofficial results show the Democrat newcomer unseating the incumbent Republican.

CHATHAM, NJ - The tight race for Chatham Township Committee is all but over with mail-in ballots pushing Democrat Tracy Ness over Republican incumbent Kevin Sullivan for the open seat on the dais.

According to the unofficial results posted by the Morris County Clerk Tuesday , Sullivan was leading Ness 2,271 votes to 2,145. The mail-in totals added Thursday saw Ness pick up 589 votes and Sullivan 335. With less than 100 provisional ballots to be certified, the numbers stand with Ness receiving 2,734 votes to Sullivan's 2,606.

The results are still unofficial until certified by the Morris County Clerk.

Ness emerges victorious after a tight race that saw her trailing Sullivan at the end of election night Tuesday.

According to election officials, a new state law allows for Vote by Mail Ballots to be received through the mail service up until 48 hours after Election Day as long as Ballot was postmarked by Election Day.

There are several issues currently facing the governing body that include plans for the development of the Dixiedale Farm property, affordable housing, and the cleanup of the Rolling Knolls landfill in the township's Green Village section.
