The Senior Enrichment Center of the Chathams brought a group of 54 up to the Hudson Valley on Wed., Oct. 2 to visit Kykuit (Roosevelt’s estate), Sunnyside (Washington Irving’s home), and the Union Church at Pocantico Hills. The weather was perfect making for a magnificent excursion.
The Center hosts 4-5 daytrips a year traveling to locations within about 2 hours of Chatham. Some of the past trips include Longwood Gardens, Philadelphia’s Barnes Foundation and the Rodin Museum, the High Line and Intrepid in NYC, The NJ Botanical Gardens, the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, and the Planting Fields Arboretum on Long Island. NYC is always a popular destination since many enjoy it but don’t want the hassle of navigating the transportation system. The Senior Center provides an easy and affordable avenue to experience all that NYC and the surrounding area offers.
The trips are planned in advance, frequently with guided tours of attractions and always attended by staff members who assure that the trip goes smoothly. We are very fortunate to have so many interesting destinations nearby for our seniors to visit and haven’t run out of new ideas in the many years of trip-planning! Our next trip is to MoMA – the Museum of Modern Art -- in midtown Manhattan on Dec 9.
