CHATHAM, NJ — A Week at the Library of The Chathams: Monday, April 9 – Sunday, April 15, 2018

Free ESL program at the library enrolling now:
The program will be held on Thursdays, May 3 through June 21 – 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

For anyone wanting to improve their English language skills, we are starting our first ever ESL program. The program will be conducted by Language Education and Resource Network (LEARN) and volunteer tutors for 8 weeks. Further sessions may be offered depending on demand. Students will be divided into small groups by skill level. Books and other learning materials will be provided. The program is free – all you need is a commitment to learn! Programs and events:
Attention teens, we are starting our new Anime Club for everyone who loves the Japanese animation art! The first meeting is this Friday, April 13 at 3 p.m., and everyone is welcome to attend – no registration required. On a more serious note, if you or anyone you know may be in danger of an opioid overdose, come to the NARCAN training workshop on Saturday, April 14. For children, an old favorite is back – Monday is the first class in the spring chess series.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is held on Wednesdays, February 7 to April 11 from 10 am to 2 pm. Appointments for this free service may be made in person or by calling the library at 973-635-0603. Please bring all your financial records from 2017, copies of your 2016 Federal and State tax returns, photo ID, and all printed and blank forms from the Internal Revenue Service.

Ⓐ CALL: Virtual Tours of The Met Cloisters and The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Wednesdays, April 4, 11, 18 & 25 – 11:30 am
Michael Norris, Ph. D. and retired art educator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for over 20 years, will present this four-part series. The virtual tours will include: A Stroll through the Medieval Masterpieces of The Met Cloisters; A Stroll through The Met’s Egyptian Art; A Tour of Ancient Greek Art at The Met; and A Tour of Paintings of the Dutch Golden Age. A $40 fee for this series is required payable to Friends of the Library.

Ⓐ Italian Movie: Mia Madre (R, 107 min.) – 12:45 pm
The Italian Conversation Group will show the movie Mia Madre in Italian with English subtitles. Everyone is invited to attend. Potluck refreshments will be served.
Acclaimed Italian auteur Nanni Moretti finds comedy and pathos in the story of Margherita, a harried film director (Margherita Buy, A Five Star Life) trying to juggle the demands of her latest movie and a personal life in crisis. The star of her film, a charming but hammy American actor (John Turturro) imported for the production, initially presents nothing but headaches and her crew is close to mutiny. Away from the shoot, Margherita tries to hold her life together as her beloved mother's illness progresses, and her teenage daughter grows ever more distant. Mia Madre premiered in the Main Competition of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival where it won Ecumenical Jury prize while Margherita Buy received the Best Actress prize at Italy s 2015 Donatello Awards. Characteristically self-reflexive and autobiographical, Moretti's latest speaks to the poignancy of human transience, how we process loss and how we gain strength through humor.

Ⓐ NARCAN Training – 2 pm
The Opioid Overdose Prevention Project will sponsor a free training session demonstrating how NARCAN nasal spray can help reverse an opioid overdose. The training will include information on overdose prevention strategies, signs and symptoms of an overdose, how to administer Naloxone, rescue breathing, overdose prevention legal rights, and support information and resources. The class is limited to 20 eligible attendees who will receive one free dose of NARCAN Nasal Spray.
