CHATHAM, NJ — A Week at the Library of The Chathams: Monday, August 6 – Sunday, August 12, 2018. Please note that the library is closed on Sundays now through Labor Day weekend.
The biggest event of the week is a science program for children, on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. Presented by Super Science for Kids and led by science teacher Dan Weissman, this program promises to be an exciting introduction to chemistry for young children.

Ages 5 to 8 Limit: 15 children

Peaches are the perfect summer fruit and can be used in some surprising recipes. Join Nicole O’Brien, Registered Dietitian at ShopRite of Chatham, and enjoy activities and recipes made with fresh peaches.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 7
Ⓒ Drop-In Storytime
For preschoolers and their caregivers. No registration required.
10 – 10:30 am. Ages 2 & younger
10:30 – 11 am. Ages 3 & up.
Ⓒ Super Science for Kids Presents: Chemical Wizardry – 5 pm
Ages 6 to 10 Limit: 50 children

Get ready for a fun-filled “magical” laboratory experience, Harry Potter-style! We will demonstrate the Big Bang Cannon, Smoking Volcano, Magic Genie in a Bottle, Mushroom Monster and more! Enjoy making Flubber, Insta-Snow polymer, Lava Lamp-like blobs, and other chemistry projects. All participants will take home a project they made.
Ⓒ The Actor’s Craft – 7 pm
Tuesdays, July 17, 24 & 31; August 7 & 14 – 7 to 8:30 pm
Learn the craft of acting from Bill Sorvino of the celebrated Sorvino acting family. Students will learn the basics of the Meisner method. They will gain basic skills, knowledge and experience in the craft of acting for stage and screen. Once the skills are formed, there will be scene work culminating in a showcase performance for the students who have attended all classes.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8

For preschoolers and their caregivers. No registration required.

10:30 – 11:15 am. Ages 4 & up.
Ⓒ Dance Innovations: Jazz Dance – 3 pm
Ages 3 & Up Limit: 20 children

Children will learn the fundamentals of jazz dance. Then they will perform a jazz combination for parents and caregivers.

Ⓣ Teen Scary Movie Night – 7 pm
Gather your friends and come to the library for a scary movie night! You will get to choose whick PG-13 rated film we will watch. Refreshments will be served.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 10
Ⓒ Legopalooza! – 10 to 11:30 am
All Ages
Build your own LEGO creation from our enormous collection of LEGOs. All creations will be put on display in the Children’s Room.
Ⓣ Anime Club – 3 pm
Grades 6 to 12
Come read, watch, and discuss anything and everything about anime and manga with other fans. All are welcome, even if you’re brand new to the world of anime!
