CHATHAM, NJ — This week we are starting the first of two series of coding classes for kids. Children will also enjoy an animal show presented by Eyes of the Wild – always entertaining and jam-packed with interesting facts about animals. Young local artist Hammer Richman will perform a concert of rock favorites, as well as original compositions. The library is a cool place to be in the summer, in every sense of the word!

Ages 8 to 12 Limit: 10 children
Registration required
Must be able to attend all three classes
Learn basic scratch programming in a simple and fun way. Get acquainted with various programming skills and the process of design. No prior experience required.

Create a watercolor of a singing bird on sheet music paper while learning about notes, bars and musical staff.

Ⓒ The Actor’s Craft – 7 pm
Tuesdays, July 17, 24 & 31; August 7 & 14 – 7 to 8:30 pm
Learn the craft of acting from Bill Sorvino of the celebrated Sorvino acting family. Students will learn the basics of the Meisner method. They will gain basic skills, knowledge and experience in the craft of acting for stage and screen. Once the skills are formed, there will be scene work culminating in a showcase performance for the students who have attended all classes.

Ⓕ Rock Concert with Hammer Richman – 7 pm
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Hammer Richman will perform an outdoor concert. Hammer has performed at Relay for Life 2017 and the Chatham Performing Arts Club Spring Showcase. Aside from original music, Hammer will perform songs by The Smithereens, Foo Fighters, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Rival Sons, and the Beatles. The concert will be held on the library lawn; bring a chair or blanket to get comfortable (rain location: Lundt Meeting Room). All are welcome to attend and be prepared for real and raw rock-n-roll!

When, by executive decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, 12-year-old Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. Ⓒ Eyes of the Wild: Animals Rock!
Friday, August 3 – 4 to 4:45 pm
Ages 4 & Up
This program will feature the many ways in which animals use sound to communicate. We all know birds sing but did you know a wallaby has a special call for its baby, alligators make a boom sound in B Flat, and groundhogs whistle? We will discuss these and other surprising sounds animals use. Some animal possibilities for this show include: birds, alligator, snake, wallaby, groundhog, skunk, degu, coati, and porcupine.
