Week Of Sept. 17 At Library Of The Chathams
There is a new program unveiled this week at the library to educate about suicide and prevent suicide. Please come and learn more:

CHATHAM, NJ — "Stay" is a new library initiative to provide Chatham parents and caregivers access to information that can help family members cope with crisis situations. The goal is to prevent suicide attempts. The School District of the Chathams, Chatham Borough Council, Chatham Township Committee, and the Municipal Alliance Committee of the Chathams are working together with the library to provide resources and programming beginning in September in conjunction with National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The first two programs will take place on Thursday, September 18 – see listings below.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17
Ⓒ Stories with the Librarian – 10 to 10:30 am
All ages
Children and caregivers can enjoy a few stories, a few songs, and maybe a simple craft.
Ⓐ Food or Foe? Wild Mushroom Identification – 7 pm
Jim Barg of the New Jersey Mycological Association will give a lecture on mushroom identification. The presentation will show how and why detailed and accurate observation is needed to properly identify mushrooms found in yards, local parks, and forests. Fresh specimens will be available for attendees to examine using criteria discussed in this lecture. All are welcome to attend.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
Ⓒ Rizzo’s Wildlife World – 4 pm
Ages 4 & Up
This fun wildlife program features 8 to 10 animals (snakes, lizards, frogs, turtles, insects, and small mammals) as well as a baby alligator! Children will learn about the animals, where they are from, and what they like to eat. Best of all, the children can interact with or touch the majority of the animals! This program is a one-of-a-kind experience! Made possible by the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority through the Clean Communities Grant
Ⓐ In Their Shoes – 4 to 9 pm
Presented by Attitudes in Reverse (AIR), this exhibit of 269 pairs of shoes, representing people who took their lives, will also include certified therapy dogs, as well as a mental health advocate to answer questions.
Ⓐ In Our Own Voice – 7 pm
Presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), this program aims to change stereotypes about people with mental health conditions. Presenters with personal experience of mental illness will talk openly about what it’s like to live with a mental health condition. Their goal is to humanize the misunderstood, highly-stigmatized topic of mental illness by showing that it’s possible—and common—to live well with a mental health condition.

Sew a cute Yeti similar to the character in the upcoming movie Smallfoot in this 3-week class.

Wednesdays, September 19 through October 24
Registration required
Players must be able to attend all 6 classes
Group 1: Players with little or no experience with chess
4 to 4:45 pm
Suggested ages 6 to 8 Limit: 12 children
Group 2: Players who can finish a game with checkmate
5 to 5:45 pm
Suggested ages 8 to 10 Limit: 16 children
Chess Master Gregory Markzon will lead this series of classes.

This 8-week series of classes is for everyone who wants to improve their English language skills. Students are divided into small groups by skill level. Books and other learning materials will be provided. The program is free – all you need is a commitment to learn!

Ⓣ Japanese Anime Drawing Workshop
With Comic Book Artist Doug Baron – 6:30 to 8 pm
Grades 6 to 12 Limit: 20 students
Registration required
Doug will show examples of his comic book art and give a brief summary of the thought process behind each piece. The students will then draw Japanese anime characters along with Doug as he breaks down the characters from their most basic shapes to completed forms. He will ask trivia questions where the students can earn “funny money” to win Doug’s drawings at the end of the session.

Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter with these special treats! Use chocolate, icing, and candy to conjure up some cauldron cake pops. We will also make s'more textbooks to help you study for your History of Magic or Transfiguration classes.

Are you a chess player looking for partners and a comfortable place to play close to home? This club is for you! Enjoy a game of chess on a Saturday afternoon twice a month. We will provide chess boards and pieces, and even a chess clock! No registration required.
