12 Cherry Hill Residents Die Of Coronavirus In 2 Days: Officials

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Six more Camden County residents — all from Cherry Hill — have died after testing positive for new coronavirus, Camden County officials announced on Tuesday. Twelve residents of the township have died as a result of the coronavirus in two days. Eighteen Cherry Hill residents altogether have died as a result of the coronavirus.

“We are saddened to have learned of another six souls in Camden County who lost their battle with coronavirus. Our thoughts now turn to the families and friends who have lost loved ones and are mourning during this unprecedented event,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said.

The following fatalities in Cherry Hill were announced on Tuesday:

  • Two men in their 70s;
  • A woman in her 90s;
  • A man in his 90s;
  • A woman in her 70s; and
  • A man in his 60s.

"On behalf of the residents of Cherry Hill, we want to offer our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those we’ve lost," township officials said in a statement. "We ask all of our residents to continue practicing social distancing and go out only when absolutely necessary, so that we can slow the spread and try to protect our vulnerable populations."

The following new positive cases were reported in Cherry Hill on Tuesday. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases.

  • Two men in their 80s;
  • Two women in their 20s;
  • A woman in her 50s;
  • A woman in her 40s; and
  • Two women in their 60s.

How It Spreads

The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading from person-to-person. Someone who is actively sick with COVID-19 can spread the illness to others. That is why CDC recommends that these patients be isolated either in the hospital or at home (depending on how sick they are) until they are better and no longer pose a risk of infecting others.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19.

While the best way to prevent illness is to avoid virus exposure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention always recommends taking preventive actions to contain the spread of viruses.
This includes:

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
