Abortion Clinic Targeted For Cleanliness, Personnel Violations In Cherry Hill

Equipment cleaning, disposing of old materials, and nurse qualifications were all improperly handled, the Department of Health said.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The "Cherry Hill Women's Center" abortion clinic was ordered to adjust its operations after state officials flagged the site for multiple violations.

On April 30, the New Jersey Department of Health notified the facility that it would be imposing a "Directed Plan of Correction" after it uncovered issues with cleanliness and staffing.

Surveyors found "significant deficiencies in nursing services" and infection control practices during multiple site inspection visits.

These included "failure to develop and implement a policy for employee performance evaluations," failure to account for expired materials, and failure to ensure nursing was led by a Registered Nurse.

The Department also found that the "Women's Center" did not take necessary measures when administering medication, and certain practices were not carried out in accordance with physician orders and New Jersey Board of Nursing requirements.

There were also multiple repeated lapses in taking the actions necessary for infection control, cleanliness, and documentation, the state said.

"These deficiencies reflect a breakdown in infection prevention controls, clinical oversight, and regulatory compliance, compromising patient safety and demonstrating inadequate administrative and nursing leadership," the Department of Health added.

The Cherry Hill Women's Center must now have a full-time Consultant Director of Nursing who is a Registered Nurse and a Director of Nursing on-site.

Weekly progress reports with status updates on areas of non-compliance, measures being taken to address those areas of non-compliance, and the status of the corrections being made must also be sent to the state.

These orders are in effect until further notice. Should the facility fail to comply, further enforcement, such as fines, suspensions, and the site's certificate to operate being revoked, may be implemented.

Patch has reached out to the "Women's Center" for comment and is yet to hear back.
