Become Part Of 'A Christmas Story' At The Cherry Hill Mall

An interactive display based on the Christmas classic is open at the Cherry Hill Mall through Dec. 24.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Just don’t shoot your eye out. Good words of advice for Ralphie, and something to keep in mind for anyone looking to partake in the Cherry Hill Mall’s interactive “A Christmas Story” experience this holiday season.

The interactive walkthrough display, which is currently open, features nostalgic scenes from the treasured holiday classic movie, which was set in 1940’s Suburban Indiana about a boy named Ralphie Parker. Parker attempts to convince his parents to buy him a Red Ryder B.B. Gun. When they say no, he ultimately resorts to visiting Santa at the mall to ask him, and is met with similar results.

Mall owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) hired Parker 3D to design the display to make it fun for kids and offer a bit of nostalgia for adults. It opened on Nov. 11, and has drawn crowds from all over the Mid-Atlantic Region, PREIT said.

It will remain open through Dec. 24, and is free. A variety of photo packages are available for visitors to document to their first visit with Santa. Or the Leg Lamp. Merchandise will also be for sale.

Visitors can explore the Parker family kitchen, capture a family photo in front of the iconic Leg Lamp in the Parkers’ living room, slide down Santa Mountain, and more. Even the smallest details are included, such as vintage appliances, a living room set to the music and sounds of an antique radio, and of course, the infamous “major award” shining brightly in the window to welcome everyone.

The adventure gets even more exciting as children can take a ride down the famous slide after meeting Santa Claus. The design team worked with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on the display.

“We are beyond thrilled to work with WBCP to create this very special holiday experience for fans and families,” Parker 3D Director John Carter said. “We have created dozens of holiday displays all over the world, but few would compare to the fun of recreating the scenes from A Christmas Story. The hope is that this display creates that same sentimental feeling for our visitors as it did for us. Our goal is to ultimately get people out of the house and into the mall for an enhanced holiday experience.”
