Camden County To Provide Coronavirus Update As Cases Surge
Rep. Donald Norcross will join Camden County Freeholder Jeff Nash and Communicable Disease Investigator Rianna Deluca for Thursday's event.
CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — County officials will provide an update on Camden County’s coronavirus response as cases continue to increase countywide.
Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1) will join Camden County Freeholder Jeff Nash and Communicable Disease Investigator Rianna Deluca for the address, which will be livestreamed on Camden County’s Facebook page and at camdencounty.com/live. The event will begin at noon on Thursday.
“We are consistently seeing a spiking sustained rate of transmission with COVID cases throughout the county that is extremely disconcerting. Between community transmission and hospitalizations, we are living through the second wave of this virus,” Nash said. “It is extremely important at this time that everyone understands the state of this crisis and how they can help to stop the spread. This surge does not have to continue, but it relies on everyone doing their part and taking the proper precautions to meet this moment head on.”

One new death was reported on Wednesday. A Waterford man in his 90s has died after testing positive for the coronavirus. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family, as well as with the families of everyone we have lost to this insidious virus,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “We are continuing to experience unmitigated spread of this virus and it shows no signs of slowing. Everyone needs to be taking precautions to protect themselves and their families, including avoiding indoor gatherings, wearing a mask whenever you’re around others, social distancing when possible, and working with contact tracers when they call. The coming weeks are going to present new and unprecedented challenges, but we will get through it together and be stronger for it.”
The Camden County Department of Health also announced 1,572 confirmed resident cases and 673 staff cases in the county’s 56 long-term care facilities. At this time, 343 resident deaths and three staff deaths have been reported from these facilities.
