Cherry Hill East Girls Swimmers Use Depth to Sink Clearview

Cherry Hill East’s girls swimmers lost a few battles against No. 4 seed Clearview Monday, but the Cougars won the war.

East’s swimmers piled up 15 second- and third-place finishes to go with five event wins in a 96-74 semifinal victory, which puts East in the South A title meet later this week.

While Clearview pulled off more event victories—six in all—the Pioneers couldn’t capitalize on those wins. East outscored or tied Clearview in the first eight events, and the Pioneers only managed to make up ground in the later relays.

Jamie Lynn Brookover (200 medley relay, 100 backstroke) and Natalie Simunek (200 medley relay, 50 freestyle) were the only double winners for the Cougars, who relied on depth to win the meet.

East moves on to face No. 2 Atlantic City, an 87-83 winner over Vineland, in the South A championship at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Deptford Thursday.
