Cherry Hill Man In His 70s Dies Of Coronavirus

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A Cherry Hill man in his 70s has died after testing positive for new coronavirus, Camden County officials announced on Tuesday. It was the only new death announced countywide on Tuesday.

An additional 125 new cases of the coronavirus were also reported in the county, bringing the totals to 2,215 cases with 86 fatalities.

“The loss of life that we have experienced thus far in this pandemic has already left a gaping hole in our community. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who have lost a loved one and those who are recovering from this insidious disease,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said. “For the last week, our daily number of new positive cases has stayed largely consistent, a testament to the hard work that our community is doing to stay home and slow the spread of coronavirus. Unfortunately, this does not mean that our fight is over. We must continue to follow the governor’s stay at home order, stay out of parks and crowded spaces, and maintain appropriate social distancing until it is safe to ease these restrictions. We will win this fight if we continue to work together.”

Trace investigations are underway in all new cases, including the following in Cherry Hill:

• A man in his 40s;
• Two men in their 20s;
• 12 women in their 80s;
• Two men in their 60s;
• A man in his 50s;
• A woman in her 60s;
• Four women in their 70s;
• A man in his 30s;
• A woman of unknown age;
• A woman in her 20s;
• Two women in her 50s;
• A man in his 80s; and
• A woman in her 40s.

How It Spreads

The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading from person-to-person. Someone who is actively sick with COVID-19 can spread the illness to others. That is why CDC recommends that these patients be isolated either in the hospital or at home (depending on how sick they are) until they are better and no longer pose a risk of infecting others.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19.

While the best way to prevent illness is to avoid virus exposure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention always recommends taking preventive actions to contain the spread of viruses.
This includes:

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
