Cherry Hill Man In His 90s Dies Of Coronavirus

As of Monday, 1,616 Cherry Hill residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic and 157 have died.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A Cherry Hill man in his 90s has died after testing positive for the coronavirus, Camden County officials announced on Monday.

He is the 157th Cherry Hill resident to die after testing positive for the virus. He was one of eight Camden County residents whose deaths were announced on Monday, bringing the total number of county deaths related to the virus to 575.

The other Camden County fatalities included five Voorhees residents — three women in their 90s, a woman in her 70s and a man in his 80s. A Camden woman in her 60s and a Pennsauken man in his 70s also died.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and their victims tonight as we mourn the loss of eight more Camden County residents,” Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “As countries around the world begin to implement a new round of curfews, restrictions, and partial lockdowns, we have to use this opportunity to reduce the spread of COVID-19 before it’s too late. Please continue to wear a mask whenever you are around others, maintain social distancing whenever possible, and do not attend or host small indoor gatherings. Additionally, one of the most impactful actions you can take right now is to work with our contact tracing team when they call. Our team will not share your personal information with the public or other agencies.”

As of Monday, 1,616 Cherry Hill residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. Countywide, 12,136 residents have tested positive, including 143 new cases on Monday.

This is the second consecutive week in which the number of new coronavirus cases in the county exceeded 100 in one day, according to numbers posted on the county website. On Oct. 19, there were 135 new cases reported. Before that, the last time there were 100 new cases in one day was May 28.

Monday’s numbers are the fourth highest number of new cases in the county since the beginning of the pandemic. The most came on May 9, when 195 new cases were reported. One-hundred sixty-five cases were reported on April 27, and 150 new cases were reported on April 16.

Trace investigations are underway in all new cases. The following information is known about new cases in Cherry Hill:

  • Four men in their 40s;
  • Eight men in their 30s;
  • A man in his 20s;
  • A man in his 60s;
  • Three women in their 30s;
  • Six women in their 50s;
  • Three women in their 20s;
  • A man in his 60s;
  • Three men in their 50s;
  • Two women in their 40s;
  • A man in his 80s;
  • Three boys older than 10;
  • A woman in her 70s; and
  • A woman in her 60s.

The Camden County Department of Health is also announcing 1,544 confirmed resident cases and 651 staff cases have occurred in the county’s 56 long-term care facilities. At this time, 341 residents and three staff members have died.
