Cherry Hill Native, 23, Dies From Hiking Fall In California

Jacob Manders was found dead the morning after he was reported missing. No foul play is suspected.

ALTADENA, CA — A Cherry Hill native who went missing while hiking in California was found dead Monday after an apparent fall from a hill.

Jacob Manders was located Monday morning on a hiking trail in Altadena — a mountainous suburb of Los Angeles. The 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death was ruled accidental, and there is no suspicion of foul play, said Det. Mark Perez, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.

Manders was reported missing the night before, Perez told Patch.

He graduated from Cherry Hill High School East in 2019. After college, Manders moved to Southern California and worked as an aerospace engineer in Long Beach.

Manders "lived life to its fullest" and enjoyed hiking and camping, according to his obituary. He also enjoyed yoga, sports, learning and spending time with his family and friends.

After graduating from Cherry Hill East, Manders attended college at Duke University, graduating in 2023.
