School Board Vacancy Exists In Cherry Hill
The person picked will hold the position until at least Jan. 3, said an email from the Cherry Hill School District.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The Cherry Hill Board of Education has begun searching for a new school board member, again.
A person interested in filling the open position must meet the following requirements, based on an email that was sent out by the district and that Patch obtained:
- be a United States citizen
- be at least 18 years old
- be able to read and write
- be a resident of Cherry Hill for at least 1 year
- be registered to vote within the Cherry Hill School District
- not disqualified due to NJSA 19:4-1
- not convicted of a disqualifying crime in accordance with NJSA 18A:12-1
- not involved either directly or indirectly in any contract or claim against the school board
Anyone interested in applying for the vacancy should submit a letter of interest and resume by July 18 at 4:00 p.m. to Mrs. Lynn E. Shugars, the email said. Letters and resumes can be sent to her via U.S. Postal Mail at the Arthur Lewis Administration Building, via email at lshugars@chclc.org or via fax at 856-616-9675, the email also said.

Then on July 20, the school board will meet in an executive session to decide which candidates to interview for the opening, according to the email. Those interviews and the school board's vote on filling the vacancy will occur on July 26 and then on Aug. 9, the successful candidate will be sworn in, appointed and introduced, according to the email.
Whoever is chosen will fill the seat until at least Jan. 3, the email said.

The school board has previously had to fill vacancies via processes other than elections.
In December 2021, the school board announced it needed to fill the vacancy created when Carol Matlack stepped down. She was replaced by Joel S. Mayer, according to the minutes of the school board's Feb. 8 meeting.
A vacancy needing filled outside of the election process also occurred in 2019, according to The Sun's Facebook page.
