Cut Loose, Kick Off Your Sunday Shoes, and Audition for Footloose

The Voorhees Theatre Company will hold auditions for its summer young adult production of Footloose, Thurs., May 30 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Fri., May 31, from 6:30 to 9:30. Call-backs, by invitation only, will occur on Mon., June 3, 6:30 t0 9:30 p.m. Performers from 9th grade to age 25 are invited to audition for the show, which will open for three performances on Aug. 8, 2019. Auditions will take place in the theater at the Voorhees Middle School, 1000 Holly Oak Drive, Voorhees.

Come dressed to dance and prepared to sing 16 bars of a Broadway song that demonstrates your range and ability. An accompanist will be available to play your sheet music, or you may bring a digital device for instrumental accompaniment. Be prepared to stay for entire time. An audition fee of $25 will be collected, and a costume fee of $75 will be due by June 24.

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren isn't prepared for the local laws - including a ban on dancing - which are the brainchild of a local preacher bent on exercising control over the town's youth. When the Reverend's rebellious daughter sets her heart on Ren, her boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation and many of the locals are eager to believe the worst about the new kid. Based on the 1984 film of the same name, the musical opened in 1998 and was nominated for four Tony Awards.

Footloose will be performed three times: Thurs., Aug. 8; Fri., Aug. 9; and Sat., Aug. 10, at 7:30 p.m. All performances will be held at the Voorhees Schools Theatre, 1000 Holly Oak Dr., Voorhees.
