Don't Leave Animals Locked In Hot Cars, Cherry Hill Police Remind Residents

Police ask residents to take these steps if they see an animal locked in a hot car.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Cherry Hill police are reminding residents about the danger of leaving animals in parked cars during the dog days of summer.

“Your vehicle can quickly reach a temperature that puts your pet at risk of serious illness and even death, even on a day that doesn’t seem hot to you,” police said in a Facebook post. “Leaving the window with a crack does not eliminate these dangers. Protecting animals from unnecessary death is a problem we can all agree to prevent.”

Police are asking anyone who sees an animal locked in a parked car to take the following steps:
  • Take down the car’s make, model, color and license plate number, and have the owner paged in the nearest buildings;
  • Call the police non-emergency number immediately at 856-665-1200. If the animal is in distress, call 9-1-1; and
  • Do not leave the scene until the situation is resolved.
