NJ State Troopers Rescue 2-Year-Old, Puppy From Hot Car

A grandmother accidentally locked her grandson and dog inside her car over the weekend, according to state police.

State police sprang into action to save a 2-year-old and a puppy from a locked car in the excessive heat over the weekend.

After visiting Batsto Village on the border of Atlantic and Burlington counties this weekend, a woman accidentally locked her grandson and dog in the backseat of her car, according to New Jersey State Police. When she realized she had locked her keys in the front passenger seat, she frantically dialed 911.

Troopers Jacob Sherry and Steven Hodge arrived on the scene. With the child visibly sweating inside the locked, hot car, police decided it was necessary to break open the window. After the woman agreed, Hodge broke the window and the troopers rescued the child and the dog.

Sherry put the child in the air conditioned police car and waited for EMS to arrive. A precautionary evaluation determined the child’s vital signs were normal, and he wasn’t in distress.
