Man Killed, 3 Hurt In South Jersey Crash: Police

The driver sustained 'serious' injuries in the 1-vehicle collision, officials said.

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A passenger was killed while three others sustained injuries in a crash Sunday night in Cumberland County, officials said.

State troopers responded to the crash at 9:55 p.m. on Route 670 in Fairfield Township. A westbound Honda ran off the roadway and hit two trees, according to Tpr. Troy McNair.

The crash killed Hartley Pernell, 60, of Bridgeton, according to police.

The driver — a 57-year-old Millville woman — sustained "serious" injuries, McNair said. Two additional passengers — a 43-year-old Bridgeton woman and 45-year-old Berlin man — had moderate injuries.

All three injured individuals were taken to a local hospital. Police had no information available about their conditions.

The accident remains under investigation.
