NJ Chemistry Teacher Charged With Sex Assault Of Student

RUNNEMEDE, NJ — A teacher at Sterling High School was arrested after engaging in a sexual encounter with a student, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jason D. Howe, 26, of Runnemede, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

On Friday, local police told the Prosecutor's Office that a girl who was at least 16 but less than 18 years old reported having relations with a teacher.

Detectives found that the two had intercourse at his Runnemede apartment in March.

Howe was a chemistry teacher at the school, where he also coached boys and girls cross country, freshman boys basketball, and assisted as a coach for girls spring track.

The school has suspended and banned him from school property, authorities added.

Howe was taken into custody in Runnemede on Friday and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility.

He is now awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for next week.

At this time, there are no other victims in the case, the Prosecutor's Office said.
