Possible Contaminated Gas Again Shuts Down Camden Station: Officials

The Conoco gas station on Admiral Wilson Boulevard is under investigation again by the department of weights and measures.

CAMDEN, NJ — A Camden gas station is again under investigation for possibly contaminated gas that caused cars to break down, officials said.

This is the second recent incident at the Conoco gas station on Admiral Wilson Boulevard, which temporarily shut down this past January when cars had issues after filling up there. It was discovered that the fuel supply was 58 percent water following a rainstorm. Read more: Contaminated Camden Gas Contained 58 Percent Water: Officials

Police shut the station down Sunday evening after cars began breaking down again, county spokesman Dan Keashan told Patch.

He confirmed that 15 vehicles had been impacted after filling up at Conoco.

It's possible that the weekend's rainstorm caused issues again here, Keashan said, as there was street surface flooding. However, it's only speculation until lab tests come back, he said.

This time, Camden's weight and measurements division is investigating, instead of the county.

Following the January incident, the station was fined $25,000 by the county and made to pay back vehicle owners for all repairs.

It wasn't clear when the station would be able to reopen or what measures would be taken. Previously, the county required the station to pump out all contaminated fuel and remediate the inside of the tanks. The county then tested a sample of newly delivered fuel and allowed Conoco to reopen once that sample passed a lab test.
