Registration Opens March 6 for Voorhees Theatre Company’s 2017 Summer Camp

This Year's Experience Culminates with The Princess and the Magic Pea

The Voorhees Theatre Company announces that registration for its 2017 summer camp opens March 6, 2017. Campers can choose between the acting-focused Performance Program or the Technical Theater Program, which covers many of the behind-the-scenes aspects of live theater such as lighting, sound and set design.

As in past years, the camp experience will culminate with a full stage production in August. This year, campers will stage the classic Hans Christian Andersen fable, The Princess and the Magic Pea from Aug. 2-5, with two alternate casts.

The Performance Program, designed for the child interested in performance and theater education, provides arts enrichment in a safe and fun environment. Participants are placed in age-appropriate groups supervised by high school and college-age counselors under the direction of adult professionals. The focus is on arts education, group cooperation and fun. The Performance Program is open to grades 3 through 8, meets Mondays to Thursdays, June 26 to Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Technical Theatre Program encourages campers to explore the behind-the-scenes efforts that bring the magic alive on stage, including blueprint reading for building sets and developing construction and painting skills, to learning how theatrical lighting is designed and implemented. The Technical Theatre Program, which is open to grades 7 through 10, meets Mondays to Thursdays June 26 to August 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Camp is part of the Voorhees Community Education and Recreation (CER) programs, and enrollment is open to residents of all communities. Cost is $650 for Voorhees residents, and $675 for non-residents. Camp and all performances take place at the Voorhees Middle School theater, 1000 Holly Oak Drive in Voorhees.
