Shuttered Cherry Hill Deli's Offshoot Permanently Closes

Short Hills 2 Go Catering opened after the closure of the Short Hills Deli, which operated for 25 years.

MARLTON, NJ — It's been less than two years since Cherry Hill's Short Hills Deli closed after 25 years in business. But the Marlton eatery and catering service that launched in its aftermath has also permanently shuttered.

Short Hills 2 Go Catering closed because of "unforeseen circumstances," the business announced Thursday in a brief social-media post.

The Short Hills Restaurant & Delicatessen in Cherry Hill permanently closed in November 2021 because of the pandemic's financial impact. Michael Kaplan — son of Short Hills Deli owner Jerry Kaplan — launched Short Hills 2 Go Catering last August.

Short Hills 2 Go's smaller 20-seat dining area and regular customer base aided the business in the early going, the Jewish Exponent reported in December.

“We were just doing takeout only for almost three years (in Cherry Hill),” Kaplan told the Jewish Exponent. “We were doing substantial business, but at that location, expenses are way too high.”

The former Short Hills Deli in Cherry Hill became the temporary home for Classic Cake — a fellow Short Hills Plaza business impacted by the shopping center's March 2020 fire. Classic Cake operated out of the longtime deli's spaced through 2022.
