Smokey South Jersey Skies: See What's Behind The Burn

A large portion of the region may see dark clouds overhead.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said it will be conducting prescribed fire burns on Monday in three South Jersey counties.

Burlington, Camden, and Cumberland County residents can anticipate smoke-filled skies, weather permitting.

Prescribed burns are safe, effective, and efficient methods to control forest fuels that build and can lead to the start and spread of wildfires.

The acts also improve the environmental habitats for plants and animals, reduce the amount of damaging bugs, and recycle nutrients into the soil.

The scheduled burns are also part of New Jersey's carbon defense strategy.

Leaders in environmental protection can choose the intensity, timing, and interval of the fire, and help to prevent a larger, uncontrolled wildfire.

This would lead to "significant" carbon loss.
