CHERRY HILL, NJ — A Wawa store in Cherry Hill will permanently close in a few weeks, Patch has confirmed.

Wawa will shutter its location on 1110 Route 70 E, with Oct. 7 slated as the last day of operations. It opened in 1973.

The store serves the Barclay Farm and Kingston Estates neighborhoods, where Wawa once wanted to build a 24-hour "super" location with 16 gas pumps. But the application was withdrawn in late 2022 after neighbors mobilized with concerns about traffic, noise and pollution.

The neighborhood's current Wawa — soon to close — operates 24/7 but does not have a gas station.

Wawa is closing the store because it cannot meet the standards of the company's modernized locations, a corporate spokesperson told Patch.

"Over the years, our product offerings and services have changed and whenever possible we expand, relocate or modernize our older stores to meet our current offer and standards rather than close them," Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce told Patch via email. "We have considered options, but have determined it is just not feasible for us to do so here."

Wawa has stores scattered throughout Cherry Hill — including one about 2 miles down the road from the location about to close.

42 Freeway first reported the upcoming closure.
