Who Are The Democrats Of Camden County Running In Cherry Hill?

The Democrats of Camden County are fielding one candidate for mayor and three for Cherry Hill Council in June's primary.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - Two of the candidates running for Cherry Hill public office under the slogan “Democrats of Camden County” are joining with political newcomers to challenge the incumbents in the June 4 primary.

Susan Druckenbrod is running for the mayor’s seat that is being vacated by Chuck Cahn. She will face Camden County Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo in the primary. Republican Nancy Feller O'Dowd will also run for the seat.

Scott Soffen, Chiyoung "JiYoung" Min and Nathaniel DeMarino will run as Democrats of Camden County against Councilman Brian Bauerle, Councilwoman Michele Golkow and their running mate Jennifer Appell in the primary.

Joshua D. Duvall, Steven J. Lever and Mary Ellen Litton are the Republican candidates. Richard Bowen has already announced his intention to run in the elections as the Libertarian Party candidate. See related: Who’s Running For Cherry Hill Mayor, Council In 2019?

If elected mayor, Druckenbrod, would be the first West side resident to hold the office in over 30 years, since the late Mayor Maria Barnaby Greenwald.

Like Greenwald, Druckenbrod also has a background in teaching. She is a public school teacher and active board member of the Erlton North Windsor Civic Association, the Unitarian Universalist Church and South Jersey Women for Progressive Change.

First time candidate, Columbia University grad and animal rights activist, Min, is seeking a Council seat in Cherry Hill. Scott Soffen, a 30 year resident of the Springbrook neighborhood, who ran with the Cherry Hill Progressive Democrats in 2017, is running again for council. He has continued to be an outspoken critic of the current township administration regarding the issues of traffic and overdevelopment.

A graduate of Muhlenberg College and formerly a VP of Macy Corp., Soffen owns a clothing and printing business. He and his wife of 40 years, Carol, have two grown children who attended Johnson, Beck & East. Scott is active in local children’s charities.

Running with Min and Soffen is DiMarino, a Rutgers-Camden grad in political science and a security supervisor for a Philadelphia firm. Nate volunteered for the Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016 and was inspired to get involved and run for Cherry Hill Town Council.

The Primary Election will be held June 4, 2019. Vote By Mail ballots are expected to arrive in late April. All registered Democrat and independent, or unaffiliated, voters may vote in the Democratic Primary.
