American College of Physicians Gives Award to Cinnaminson's Joy Crist

Joyce "Joy" Crist received the Distinguished Contribution by ACP National or Chapter Staff by the American College of Physicians (ACP), a national organization of internal medicine physicians. Award recipients will be recognized at ACP’s annual Convocation ceremony on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, where ACP is hosting its annual scientific conference, Internal Medicine Meeting 2024, through April 20.

The Distinguished Contribution by ACP National or Chapter Staff Award is given to a former or retired national or chapter staff member for distinguished contributions to ACP.

Joyce "Joy" Crist served as a Chapter Liaison for 16 different ACP chapters (20% of all chapters and regions) during her time working at ACP. Before retiring in May 2023, she had an incredible reputation for her work ethic as the “go-to” person for generations of Governors, Governors-elect, Executive Directors, chapter staff members, colleagues, and staff members at the national ACP level. Joy displayed her natural leadership skills through coaching and helping Governors, Executive Directors, and chapter staff members in the strategic, organizational, and membership development of their chapters. Over the years her tasks were managing chapter meetings and serving as a liaison from the College (including attending in person as an ACP staff representative). Joy was also in charge of providing chapters with annual reports and assessments and helping chapters create their goals and programs. Other notable achievements include her work in creating and updating chapter websites and promotional materials. Aside from chapter meetings, she also coordinated and managed Boar Board of Governors (BOG) meetings, elections, and Executive Committee meetings

Joy was instrumental in collaborating across departments at ACP national and contributed to the development of resources and tools that are still in use today. She is still a well-respected mentor and advisor to all those who collaborated with her and looked up during her time with the College. In addition, she enriched her colleagues’ work lives by creating the College Chorus to sing throughout the building each December and leading the group for 25 years.
