Arrest Made In Cinnaminson Man's Hit-And-Run Death: Authorities

Nearly a year after John Farino was killed in a hit-and-run on I-295, a New York man was arrested and indicted on Monday.

CINNAMINSON, NJ - A New York man has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a Cinnaminson man on I-295 last year, authorities announced.

Sean Cole, 46, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on Monday as he was returning from a trip to Jamaica, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced.

Cole was indicted in connection with the Jan. 21, 2018, death of 60-year-old John Farino, Coffina said. Cole fled the scene after his tractor trailer struck Farino’s car, causing it to smash against a tree and flip over, according to authorities.

The accident happened around 5:12 a.m. when troopers from the Bordentown Station responded to a crash on I-295 northbound at milepost 45.9 in Westampton Township, Burlington County, police said.

Farino was driving his Dodge Grand Caravan north on I-295 when his car was struck in the rear by the 18-wheel tractor-trailer, police said. The force of the impact sent the Grand Caravan off the roadway and onto a grass berm where it struck several trees before overturning, police said.

When troopers arrived, they discovered Farino and his car, but the tractor-trailer fled the scene, police said. Farino was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cole pulled over about 10 minutes after the accident. Police said he reported the accident, but told a 911 telecommunicator that he had hit something but did not know what it was.

Following an investigation, Cole was indicted on one count of second-degree vehicular homicide and second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident on Jan. 8. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 28 in Superior Court.

According to his online obituary, Farino was born in Camden and graduated from the Burlington County Vocational Technical School. He enjoyed spending his weekend at the Columbus Mart.
