Bloods Street Gang Members Sentenced In South Jersey Armed Robbery Attempt
A third suspect is still awaiting trial in the attempted armed robbery of a Mount Holly gas station employee.
Two alleged members of a criminal street gang in South Jersey have been sentenced to New Jersey state prison terms for robbing an armed robbery that took place two years ago, authorities said. Kavon Carter, 19, of Lumberton, and Tayron Brown, 20, of Edgewater Park previously pleaded guilty to robbing a Mount Holly man at gunpoint on Hulme Street on May 7, 2015. They admitted that they approached him as he walked home from the gas station at which he worked and demanded the keys from the safe, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Mount Holly Police Chief Thomas Mastrangelo.
When the man said he was unable to access the safe, Carter and Brown walked him to his house, where they were chased off by his relatives, authorities said. They were arrested a short time later, and police said they recovered the gun used in the crime.
Carter was sentenced to eight years in state prison on charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
Brown was sentenced to seven years incarceration for first-degree robbery and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Tifani Young Jr., 22, of Pemberton Township, is scheduled for trial on May 17. She is charged with three counts of first-degree witness tampering, first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery in the case. She is accused of acting as the potential getaway driver had the gas station robbery been successful. Police say she was waiting in a nearby car.
All three are alleged members of the Gotti Boy Movement (GBM) street gang, which is associated with the Bloods.

“There are a multitude of facts that indicate these defendants are involved in organized criminal activity,” Assistant Prosecutor Michael Angermeier said in court. “An extensive investigation established that these defendants are in fact members or associates of the Bloods criminal street gang and have a long history of contacts with law enforcement, including multiple arrests and convictions in the juvenile, municipal, or superior court levels. This repeated contact with law enforcement and the criminal justice system has failed to deter them from offending, and thus incarceration in state prison is necessary.”
Young also faces charges in the case of 23-year-old Adam Clark, of Pemberton Township, who is accused of leading police on a car chase following a shooting in October 2015 in the township’s Sunbury Village.
A 17- year-old boy who was also a defendant in that case was fatally shot in February 2016 at a Cherry Hill motel.
“Our efforts targeting this group are ongoing,” Coffina said. “We will aggressively pursue those individuals and organizations responsible for gun violence and street gang violence in Burlington County. They are priority targets.”
The cases were investigated by detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office, the Mount Holly Police Department and the Pemberton Township Police Department, with assistance from the New Jersey State Police.
