Burlington County Freeholders Introduce Budget With $3 Million Tax Levy Increase

The increase was necessary to avoid mass layoffs.

The Burlington County Freeholder Board introduced a $192 million budget that includes a tax levy increase of $3 million, the Burlington County Times reports.

There are no layoffs or service cuts, and the increase remains inside the state’s 2 percent cap, according to the report.

April’s budget introduction was tabled because the freeholders didn’t want to raise taxes, according to the report. However, they ultimately came to the conclusion that the alternative was massive layoffs.
