Burlington County Man Savagely Beat Victim In PA Over Alleged Affair: Police

The other man had to be put on a ventilator and placed into a medically induced coma, authorities said.

MONROEVILLE, PA — A Burlington County man faces criminal charges in Western Pennsylvania after beating a man so badly that he needed to be put on a ventilator and placed into a medically induced coma, according to authorities.

The beating, which occurred last Friday at the Doubletree Hotel at the Monroeville Convention Center, was triggered by an alleged extramarital affair.

Vincent Serzan, 46, of Marlton, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Magisterial District Judge Craig Stephens denied bail because Serzan "is a threat to the victim," court documents stated.

Officers in the Pittsburgh suburb responded to a report of a man lying unconscious and bleeding outside of the hotel. They found the victim near the lobby doors suffering severe facial trauma, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim was taken to the hospital where doctors told officers that all of the bones in his face were broken. The man's current condition is unknown.

Witnesses to the attack identified Serzan as the suspect. Serzan told officers that the victim had an affair with his wife several months ago, according to the complaint.

Serzan said he and the victim were drinking and ended up in a conversation, documents state. The victim did not know that Serzan knew about the affair. Serzan asked the man to go outside with the intention of talking, not fighting but Serzan told police he "just snapped."

Serzan asserted to police that he didn't do anything aggressive, "just fists," according to the complaint.

Officials placed Serzan in the Allegheny County Jail. He faces a preliminary hearing Monday.
